Ralph's Thriftway
Grocery store retrofit, décor upgrade and retail display signage
Olympia, WA
In the highly competitive world of grocery stores and supermarkets, the owner of Olympia's Ralph's Thriftway needed to differentiate this store from the main-stream competition. The owner's objectives were to create a high-end boutique atmosphere that visually communicated their quality and local history. He wanted to enhance the shopping experience by creating mini specialty "stores" within the store including a new floral boutique.
I-5 had a mandate to use the existing structure and existing square footage. This meant that we had to extract more out of the building's potential. I-5 needed to create mini-stores using the same square footage. For the interior I-5 had to create a new floral boutique . . . without encroaching on any existing space.
I-5 worked with some of the historic structures to design décor and signage which tied into the community roots of the company, gave them credit for their quality products, and helped create a comfortable, inviting shopping atmosphere. The décor and signage components, which we designed, were prefabricated at our facility out of aluminum which minimized onsite construction. And how did we solve the new Floral Boutique challenge? We created an entirely new floral section around the entryway that welcomed customers with flowers and took up no additional space within the store. The result was a store with a high-end boutique feel that met our customer's goals and could compete against the local mainstream supermarkets.
This project included exterior signage design, neon channel letters, & department signage.
