Kickapoo Casino | Azul

Project Objectives

The purpose of the project was to convert a non-performing 1,300 sf steak house into a warm and welcoming Mexican restaurant that made it easy for customers to eat dinner without having to leave the gaming floor.

Design & Planning

The design concept for Azul was inspired by the surrounding area of Eagle Pass, Texas, and intended to reflect the Mexican cuisine served in the restaurant.

A floor-to-ceiling renovation upgraded every customer-facing area while adding a new dedicated bar to service the restaurant. The “Azul” motif was maintained throughout the venue, with integrated blue accent lighting and wall decor. Floating latilla-like decor brought new interest to the otherwise empty ceiling, and the custom tin lantern pendants created unique illumination for the artwork and booths.

Build & Install

Onsite implementation included general conditions, oversite and coordination of site activity, and overall project management.

The custom wall murals, lighting, and decor were produced offsite before being installed in the new venue. Dynamic lighting, integrated into the overhead decor structures, provides the ability to adjust the ambiance in the restaurant based on the time of day, holidays, or special events in the restaurant. The project took just 6 weeks to execute before the venue was opened to casino customers and staff.

Finished Project

The completed casual dining venue is a great addition to the dining and gaming experience at Kickapoo Casino.

The results at Azul have been excellent, in both the impact this project created for the property and in customer feedback. A Latin motif is repeated throughout the venue, giving the whole restaurant a comfortable flow and making it an ideal place to dine.
