Ho-Chunk Grill

Baraboo, Wisconsin

Project Objectives

Ho-Chunk Gaming was looking for a design plan that would bring a "wow" to the customer entrance area, drawing customers in from the gaming floor. The design also needed to streamline the new kitchen incorporating equipment in a way that was both attractive and efficient.

Design & Planning

I-5 created multiple design options for Ho-Chunk Grill, working within their budget and giving the tribe more than one plan to choose from.

The design chosen by Ho-Chunk Grill featured a lodge style and warm amber lighting. As you enter the grill the wood grain architectural columns frame the entrance and incorporate a dimensional inset panel depicting a tribal imagery pattern. The new illuminated signage is installed directly over the entrance, incorporated into the supporting arched wood beam. Surrounding the grill is a custom designed half wall creating a visual separation between the gaming floor and the grill. I-5 continued the half wall theme inside the grill to create more intimate areas as well as finishing the existing walls with a combination of architectural paint finish and commercial grade wall coverings. I-5 provided specifications for new custom fabricated, commercial grade tables, chairs and booths, with a layout that features the fireplace. Lighting in this space is provided by custom light fixtures that add to the cozy warm atmosphere. The flooring, including carpeted and tiled areas, were customized to fit in with the overall decor plan. I-5 also designed a new kitchen for the grill including ventilation, refrigeration, Ware-washing, power soak technology, cook line equipment, fry and recover equipment, lang precise baking ease of operation and a built in chicken rotisserie with visual flames.

Build & Install

The restaurant design decor package was built and pre-fabricated off-site at I-5′s facility in Lacey, Washington.

I-5 strives to complete projects ahead of schedule to ensure that the area is open for business and provides a return as quickly as possible. The multi-step process of design, in-house fabrication and installation/renovation allowed for a quick turn time around on this project. All the custom decor elements were pre-fabricated in-house, tested for quality, loaded and shipped on-site, meeting I-5’s installation/renovation team. The entire area was taped off during the renovation so the grand opening reveal would have a high-impact on the guests.
