The Mint wanted to expand its premier gaming brand across several new locations in the Kentucky market. Working with I-5, a plan was created to transform a former retail storefront property into a fun and exciting casino for the Bowling Green area. The comprehensive casino renovation leveraged design elements crafted for the area’s unique locale and customer demographic while creating a visually recognizable Mint “brand” across all of the company’s locations.
Location: Bowling Green, Kentucky
Duration: 36 Weeks
Project Size: 28,000 sf
Services: Comprehensive Design-Build
The Mint’s biggest goal was to transform a former retail location into a new, high-energy entertainment venue. To make this happen, I-5’s design and architecture team partnered closely with casino management to help incorporate the existing space and bones of the building into the custom look and feel of the new design. The brand standard developed at the Kentucky Downs location was applied in innovative ways to this new location to create a feeling of familiarity while providing an excellent gaming facility on its own.
The design-build strategy streamlined this comprehensive casino renovation and allowed for a large portion of the venue’s new design elements to be constructed offsite. While demolition occurred onsite, the Mint’s custom finishes and even the new center bar itself were all being built offsite. This seamless coordination between the casino management team, I-5’s onsite construction team, and expert offsite design team allowed the Mint at Bowling Green to open right on time in alignment with management’s goals.
Finished Project
The addition of a center bar helped bring new excitement and wow factor to this reimagined venue. The bar has become both an outstanding central gaming amenity and a beloved customer destination, as it puts guests right in the center of the action. Meanwhile, the Post-Time Race & Sports Lounge features a premium sports bar and sports betting, a new offering for the market that has added new engaging activities for guests. A Corner Cafe, carried from the Mint’s Kentucky Downs location, was also incorporated into the design at Bowling Green in another consistent nod to the Mint Gaming Hall brand.
By bringing a “big city” amenity mix and entertainment offerings to a more rural locale, The Mint at Bowling Green has become the premier gaming destination in the area. The comprehensive transformation of the property has been hugely popular. The Mint is thrilled with how this project has further solidified its brand, and added new vibrancy to the local community. It continues to be a truly unique draw in the Kentucky market.
